The Black Vault

Three basalt volumes arranged around a sunken courtyard, on a quiet street in Enge. From the pavement the house presents a single unbroken wall four metres high. There is no window on the street elevation at all.

A house that opens inward

Every room faces the courtyard, which is planted with a single mature magnolia and lit from below. The effect after dark is that the house becomes a lantern seen only by the people inside it — a deliberate inversion of the usual villa logic.

The lower level holds a twenty-metre lap pool, a wine room for twelve hundred bottles, and direct lift access to a three-car garage. Currently reserved, with an expected completion of the sale in early spring.
